December 3, 2016 Los Ancianos Tecate Enduro

New Format. We do it the Anciano way!
The basics:
• 3 loops, 25 miles of primarily single track. Each loop is a special test, no transfer sections or resets within the loops. Short breaks between loops.
• Elders and women do 2 loops.
• 4 or 5 riders start per minute.
• Reset Times between each loop. You will return to the main pit area.
• Your elapsed time starts on your minute whether you are there or not – don’t be late!
• Scores based on lowest overall elapsed times.

Entries open October 1, 2016. All entries will be done online at www.losancianos.com
We have lots of details to work out between now and the event so we don’t have all the answers right now. Please post your questions on the Los Ancianos Facebook Group and we will try to answer them as we figure out the details.

Kelly Gelhaus Well I guess the dumbed down version makes more people happy.  I thought the time in between the tests really made the day dragout!  I really am surprised you guys are happy putting on such a "user friendly event".  I have always liked your events in the past.  Why not give particpation awards?   The trophy that came this year didn't make to the mantel!  See you in December the the Trail Ride! Another good time!

Last weekend 35 LAMC members, family, and friends rode/drove/trekked down to Horsepower Ranch for a quick overnight party.

After a great visit to the Rancho de los Ninos orphanage in Valle de Guadalupe, Bozo led the wagon train down the Road to Nowhere and through a very extensive tour of the northeastern suburbs of Ensenada!

The moto guys had a great cool ride that turned REALLY damp and cold on the last few miles into the Ranch.

Thanks Ray and Bozo, for putting this together. A great timne was had by all. #clubnews

Ray Abbott2016's trails won't be quite as tough as the 2015 ride. You'll still be challenged and there will be some AA splits for those that need that little extra challenge.

Folks,,

The Los Ancianos have some bitterly sad news. Legacy Member Art Brookman passed last evening after a long battle with cancer.

A member since 1978, Art was a cornerstone of the club, its trails and events. With close friend and riding partner Niles Ussery, he contributed immensely to the clubs reputation in Baja and in the USA for decades throughout the 80’s and 90’s. There are few in history who embodied the spirit, heart, attitude, and general coot-ness of the Los Ancianos more than Art did.

Art did not suffer fools well. His knick name “Pissy Art” was well and truly earned. Many found themselves the butt of his ridicule and were put off by it, giving him wide berth. That was all by design. He didn’t want to hear from them anyway. He loved nothing more than to “stir the pot”. Those who looked past it, saw the heart of the truly loyal, caring friend beneath. That was the way he wanted it. He would let those people in.

While not unexpected, this is not easy to accept. Those of us who knew him, spent time around him, and were the object of his (apparent but seldom sincere) disdain, now have a big empty place in our hearts.

Godspeed Art, we will see you down the trail.

Tim MortonOther than my own family I'm not sure there's anyone I've known, and better yet, still saw, as long as I knew Art. I often said he was like having a second dad. I'm pretty sure some of that "pissy" rubbed off on me making me who I am today. I'm truly grateful to have known Art. May the trails you ride up there be perfectly groomed, watered, and flowing, the fish plenty, your aim perfect, and the trigger be light.

REGISTRATION FOR THE APRIL 30TH RANCHERS BENEFIT TRAIL RIDE IS NOW CLOSED!

For the health of our trails, to maintain the small-group feel of the ride, and to preserve our own sanity, we had to limit the ride to 120 registrants and we are there.

Thanks to everyone that has registered for the ride and regrets to those who wanted to, but will have to miss it. Hope to see you next year.
